“A writer is not so much someone who has something to say as he is someone who has found a process that will bring about new things he would not have thought of if he had not started to say them.” - William Stafford

By making ourselves available to listen to oneself with no expectation, we learn more about who we are and can be.

So much of the world around us does not give us the time, space, or permission, to be uncertain in our thoughts and feelings. The power of the written word, especially writing poems, is that it gives us all of those things–the allowance to put something down on paper and engage with it to find out what it may mean for us, and how we might make sense of the things that stir and swarm inside us.

We’ll take time during this retreat to converse on the meaning, purpose, and power of writing under the lens of poetry, and then do some writing, invite ourselves to be in dialogue with ourselves, to see what may happen.
