Living Well with Chronic Conditions
Bob Cornett, an Air Force Veteran of the Cold War, is once again doing his woodworking projects! For many years, his hobby was cutting out and painting American eagles to decorate his home and to give as gifts. He had even made an eagle with a 6-foot wingspan to hang on his garage!
That changed three years ago; due to medical problems, he quit his enjoyable hobby. “I didn’t have the energy or strength,” Cornett said. “I just quit my woodworking.” His doctor told him he needed to move around more, rebuild his strength, and increase his activity.
Tired of being sick and tired, Cornett enrolled in a six week Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop at East Portland Community Based Outpatient Clinic. “I used to just sit around and watch TV,” he said. He told the class leaders about his woodworking projects and they drew up a plan of action that would get him back to doing the things he loved. He told the class leaders that he would have one of his eagles done by the end of the classes. “I would never have done it if it wasn’t for this class,” Cornett said.
Cornett’s wife Jaci encouraged him and attended the workshop with him. “We came to this class and the action plan is what made all the difference in his life,” Jaci said. He has two more eagles cut out and plans to get them put together and painted for Christmas gifts.
